In the later months of 2013, two young lads from Tasmania (Finn Rees & Allan McConnell) began making electronic music under the name Close Counters. They set out with the goal of creating a collection of solid tracks that they could share with the world, and in 2014 this dream became a reality.
The 17 and 19 year old students wrote, recorded & released a four-track, self-titled debut EP, with the support of University of Tasmania. The EP received praise and attention from websites all around the globe (inc. acid stag, Kick Kick Snare, Pilerats & Indie Shuffle), and while the EP’s lead-single ‘Fluctuate’ received multiple plays across Australian radio stations Triple J & FBi Radio, its music video scored some airtime with RAGE TV.
Shortly after this Close Counters decided to head on over to the mainland for a few live shows, and as their planning escalated this trip ended up becoming a 7-date national tour. It involved both headline and support shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Launceston and Hobart, before wrapping it all up at Falls Festival over New Years Eve in Marion Bay.
Close Counters documented each step of this epic adventure, compiling footage from their live performances, the crowd antics and their time on the road. Filmed by six different friends of the band throughout the tour, the video is soundtracked by the EP’s closing track ‘Can’t Complain’ (featuring Tasmanian rapper Promise), and Close Counters are now very excited to share their 2014-2015 Aussie tour adventure with the entire world.
