After a year of writing, experimenting and re-inventing their sound, Brisbane duo OKBADLANDS – comprised of Kate Gurren and Sally Latter – have released their highly anticipated debut ep, ‘Tiny Measures’.
Their good friend Golden Vessel, who helped them draw influence from various styles of music while they explored the goings on in their personal lives, produced four of the ep’s tracks. The fifth track ‘Standing Too Close’ enlists the production expertise of GXNXVS, who helps give it that smooth shiny feel that acts like a sensual caress to the ears.
“Each song on the EP reflects our thoughts or feelings on particular matters. They personify events that impacted us personally and really helped us process them,” OKBADLANDS said.
Further developing the way in which they play instruments was an integral part in the culmination of this EP. It meant establishing exactly what they wanted to be as artists.
“Over the course of the year we both worked hard at our instruments, and began writing songs that reflected what we loved in music. We also made sure that nothing was too constructed, that we were keeping things uncomplicated and made room for what flowed out naturally,” they said.
Previously released singles ‘Dust & Gold’, ‘PTY LTD’ and ‘Mineral’ all feature on the EP having racked up a healthy number of listens already, and with ‘PTY LTD’ also scoring a spot-rotation add on Australian radio station, Triple J.
Vocally, Gurren and Latter compliment each other really nicely and share a sweet vibrancy that gives the ep light. As a whole, the ep is a really easy listen, and the perfect soundtrack for a chilled Sunday afternoon.
