44 Ardent is an Australian producer who makes chilled lo-fi house music which can be likened to a mix between Bonobo, Tourist and Four Tet.
Over the last 12 months 44 Ardent has taken a tiny break from the release cycle but he has been super busy working on a collection of new tunes that he plans to roll out in 2022, and he’s kicking that off this week with the daydreamy sounds of new single ‘pieces’.
This song does create a strong nostalgic atmosphere, and as 44 Ardent reveals below he did intend for it to draw on both happy and sad feelings.
“pieces is supposed to sound sort of happy and sad at the same time. The piano and vocal samples combined are a little bit bleak, but then the drums and bassline are quite upbeat. There are also some cool things going on in the stereo imaging of the track. The bass is super wide and sort of engulfs the whole song as it comes in. My favourite part of the song is the subtle snare which does its own thing on the right-hand side of the song and works with the hi-hats to drive everything along. I recommend listening on headphones or playing it on a drive on a rainy day.” – 44 ardent
‘pieces’ is available everywhere now via Mammal Sounds Records.
