Australian trio daste. have been quite busy throughout 2024. They’ve given us three new singles – Around, Colours & Atlas – which also came with the announcement of their sophomore album that is set for release in February.
Off the back of their most recent single ‘Atlas’, they embarked on a three-date Australian tour in August, which saw them playing to a SOLD-OUT audience Sydney. Shortly after wrapping up those shows, daste. made their way to North America for their debut headline tour, which had them playing New York City, Montreal, Toronto, Chicago, Austin, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco & Seattle. They then had to make a quick trip back to Australia for their appearances at SXSW Sydney, which saw them playing two showcases that included a spot on the Rolling Stone House lineup.
During that time they also featured on two songs by Los Angeles producer veggi – UP DOWN BOUNCE & WARM NIGHTS – which were part of his new FLORA EP that was release on October 11th.
Lucky for us daste. are showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. They’re coming back to us this week with the next taste of their upcoming album with new single ‘Starwriter’, which they reveal came together while away on a writing trip and was inspired by the cosmos.
“Starwriter is a track we came up with on a writing trip away in a little beach town in Northern New South Wales called Wooli. One of the lines in the song that sparked the idea of Starwriter was “write your name in the stars like calligraphy” so we wrote to the idea of a legacy that was predestined in the stars. We had a lot of fun making this track and it became a track that didn’t need much touching up after the first few sessions of writing it because we believe it’s a good song at its core.
We wrote a lot of the lyrics as if we were singing about daste. We had a lot of late nights working on our songs, live sets, promo pics and merch etc. Putting time into daste knowing it would pay off someday, was honestly more rewarding and valuable than finishing the project. The self-gratification of making the songs we make is a feeling only we can understand but fortunately, it’s a feeling we’re able to express through
The dynamics in the song creates a lot of space and depth with the combining timbre of heavy 808’s to create a dark atmosphere with shining bright vocals.” ~ Braxton Tahi (of daste.)
‘Starwriter’ is available everywhere now and Australian fans can catch them live again very soon as they support Byron Bay band Tora on their Australian album tour in November/December (dates & tickets)
