‘Thinkin’ Of’ is the exciting debut single from a new three-piece project out of Gold Coast Australia who go by the name daste, and it’s also the latest release for Mammal Sounds Records.
Callum MacDonald, Braxton Tahi & Tyler Harden met in 2017 while working together as sessions musicians for a show on the Gold Coast. They connected instantly and decided to get together and try writing some tunes. This resulted in a few ideas that they were all really happy with, and of course lead to the formation of daste.
“Tyler, Myself and Braxton collided last year as session musicians on the Gold Coast. When the boys asked me to join them in the studio I was optimistic about the outcome. The three of us found an instant connection in our first session, understanding the strengths we had as a group and our common work process of attention to detail, we knew we’d created something special.” – Callum MacDonald
Their combined musical skills gave them freedom to write, produce & recorded everything themselves, and as they began to draw on their individual inspirations, they found they had even more in common. They’ve blended elements of chill-wave and lo-fi funk together on a sold electronic foundation, as they take us on a journey full of groove, energy and meticulous detail.
“Our process in the studio was to create as much space as possible. Each musical element is carefully thought out with a purpose – to accentuate the tracks emotion. In every section we would listen back and try introducing and subtracting sounds to keep it interesting throughout. As a result, when you hear this track you’ll notice new layers, textures and intricacies every listen.” – Callum MacDonald
