Over the last few months, Australian trio daste. have been building the anticipation for their upcoming album with a collection of great new singles including “Around”, “Colours”, “Atlas”, “Starwriter” & “River”.
That album will be titled “dasteWORLD” and it is set for on February 19th (presave here), but before we get to that they have one more teaser to share with us called ‘Tide’.
“‘‘Tide’ is the tale of two songs really. On one of our writing trips we had written a song called ‘Tide’ which features the first verse and pre-chorus you’ll hear on this track. It had a slightly similar vibe, maybe a little more upbeat. Fast forward a month or so, I had uploaded an instagram reel of this particular bassline/beat I’d made and got a cool response from a lot of people, and we wanted to try to include the beat in the album somehow.
Turns out the melodies from that original song fit perfectly and when trying to think of a new chorus, Tyler came to us with the ‘Baby won’t you back it up’ line and the rest was history. Ultimately, the lyrics and vibe reflect a longing to break free from pressures and find solace in fleeting, unstructured moments. There’s a pull toward exploring new spaces – both physically and emotionally, to rediscover clarity.” ~ Callum MacDonald (of daste.)
Back in August, daste. embarked on a three-date Australian tour which saw them playing to a SOLD-OUT audience Sydney. Shortly after wrapping up those shows, the band made their way to North America for their debut headline tour, which had them playing New York City, Montreal, Toronto, Chicago, Austin, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco & Seattle.
They then had to make a quick trip back to Australia to showcase at SXSW Sydney in October, and by late November they were back on the road supporting one of their favourite bands Tora on their Australian album tour.
Australian fans can catch daste. again in February as they support Still Woozy on his Australian tour (tickets here), and UK fans can catch them playing Footsteps Festival, Dot2Dot and Cross The Tracks in May (ticketing info here).
