After a steady run of double single releases over the last few months, UK native/Australian based producer edapollo now delivers a captivating piece of downtempo electronica titled ‘Relearn Me’ featuring the wonderful voice of Melbourne songstress Akacia – which also acts as the focus track for his long-awaited debut album, ‘Endless Cascades’.
‘Relearn Me’ takes a minimalistic approach in its composition, as it effortlessly flows through passages of chilled and ambient instrumentation acting as the perfect backdrop to allow Akacia’s delicate yet enchanting vocal to float majestically above the mix, transporting the listener into a world of tranquillity as a result.
“I wrote the instrumental to this track late last year shortly after moving to Melbourne. I’d just been away for a weekend hiking and collected a lot of sounds on my field recorder. When I got back to my studio, I started using some of the natural sounds I’d collected to form the beats in the track.
I then connected with Akacia on Soundcloud, who I’d been a fan of for a while. She nailed the vocal delivery first time and really captured the essence of the instrumental in her melodies and lyrics, with references to nature and the lyrical concept of changing as a person, which I could really relate to having just moved to a new city for a fresh start.” – edapollo
As mentioned above, ‘Relearn Me’ serves as an accompaniment to edapollo’s debut album ‘Endless Cascades’, an album that delves that little bit further into a very personal journey of staying true to your dreams and passions, as well as appreciation of beauty in a world that we often take for granted, through the composition of carefully placed real life samples taken on field by the producer himself.
“I decided to call the album ‘Endless Cascades’ because I spent a lot of time over the last couple of years appreciating nature, I started collecting the many sounds on my travels including waterfalls, crashing waves, rain, wildlife and more that can be heard at different points, taking me back to those places and times. I’ve taken a creative path in my life both with music and design, pouring all my energy in to these passions for years, so the title is also almost like an acknowledgment that I’m following the right path for me, despite any doubts or obstacles I face along the way. A metaphor I kept visualising was how our creative minds can flow like waterfalls if we allow them to, so I used this visual idea when designing the album cover for the record.
The album was half written in Bristol back when I was living in the UK, then the other half was written since moving to Melbourne late last year, so it also represents an exciting transitional point in my life, making it all the more personal to me.’ – edapollo
