Melisa Bester (fka E^ST) is excited to announce she is launching a new artist project this week called “Headaches” and with it comes a brand-new single titled ‘Make It Somehow’, which is a collaborative release with long-time friend Golden Vessel – and it’s also just the first taste of an upcoming collaborative album that they’ve been working on over the last few months!

Known for her distinctive voice and genre-blending approach, Melisa Bester has left an indelible mark on the industry from a very young age. When she was 16 years old, she had written an EP, left school, and signed a major label record deal.

By 21, the South African-born Australian had done what many only dream of, supported the likes of Panic at the Disco and Twenty One Pilots, released a debut album and was heralded by the likes of Rolling Stone and NME.

An artist whose music and writing has always been a tool for self-discovery, driven by her emotional state, in 2020 after the release of her critically acclaimed ‘I’m Doing It’ an album “about where I’m at right now, and that’s ever-changing..If anything, it’s about who I’m becoming.  she decided it was time to take a break – leading to a 3 year hiatus.

“Hey everyone, Mel here 🙂 it’s been a while, I hope you’ve been doing well.

You may or may not have noticed that I disappeared for a little while, I needed some time and space to rest and grow. And I’ve grown so much, and am so excited for this next chapter.

Thank you to everyone who came along on the E^ST journey, it was very special and I’m so grateful. I won’t be performing as E^ST anymore, I will now be making music under the name Headaches. Feel free to join me on this new journey, I’m so excited to start sharing with you! Much love, Mel”

The debut track from Headaches is in collaboration with long-time friend and fellow artist Golden Vessel, the project of Grammy Award Nominee songwriter/producer Maxwell Byrne. Golden Vessel creates a unique blend of electronic music with hip-hop, indie-rock and alternative pop influences, resulting in a sound that can be likened to a mix between Mount Kimbie, Toro y Moi and Arcade Fire.

‘Make It Somehow’ is a summation of the pairs bests; an indie pop-electronic that acts as a soundtrack to that universal, yet often indescribable feeling we all encounter at some point in our lives – ”that pang you feel when something isn’t right but you don’t know how to fix it”.

It doesn’t offer easy resolutions; instead, it thrives in the authenticity of acknowledging that not every disquiet can be neatly packaged or neatly resolved. And that’s ok.

Headaches & Golden Vessel will also be supporting New Zealand collective LEISURE on the Australian leg of their upcoming album tour in November/December with a unique live performance of the songs they’ve made together over the last few months.
