Back in May, Australian artist JVLY gave us an exceptional ep titled SUNDER, a modest yet captivating five-track collection showcasing his signature blend of smooth R&B/Soul-infused indie-pop sounds.
Since its release, JVLY has been carefully reimagining the project for a forthcoming Deluxe Edition, which will feature a remix of each track alongside a previously unheard B-side written during the original SUNDER sessions.
This week, JVLY gives us the first taste of that upcoming package with a stunning rework of “DROWNING IN MY ROOM” from French artist and producer Contrecoeur, who has transformed the song’s delicate emotion into a hypnotic, groove-laced experience. Contrecoeur has delivered a remix that both complements and expands upon the introspective world of SUNDER, offering a fresh new look into JVLY’s creative realm.
JVLY: “I love how Contrecoeur somehow makes every song feel like something from a rooftop at sunset somewhere in Paris, that’s why I wanted her to do this remix. She took the essence of DROWNING IN MY ROOM and opened the window to let the light in. She flipped it in an almost anthemic kind of way where it feels like the same world, just from a different angle.”
Contrecoeur: “For this remix of JVLY’s, Drowning In My Room, I wanted to keep the soul of his voice while reshaping the track into a nostalgic electro version. One song can have a thousand interpretations and I’m grateful that JVLY resonated with my vision.”
