Over the last few months, Australian artist JVLY (pronounced July) has been building anticipation with a string of captivating singles — SOUTH, LOCUM, DROWNING IN MY ROOM and WALKED THE SUN — each serving as puzzle pieces of a larger story. Now, he unveils the full picture with the release of his highly anticipated EP, SUNDER, alongside its final single, IT’S FINE / SOJU ON THE MOON.

JVLY describes the new single as a transitional moment:

“If ‘WALKED THE SUN’ is the last day of SUNDER, then ‘IT’S FINE / SOJU ON THE MOON’ is the first night. It’s the only song on the record where I didn’t have to write lyrics down — they just came out as I was trying to find the melody. Even the spoken word in the second part (SOJU ON THE MOON) was freestyled on the spot. I kept the imperfections because there was a rawness to it that felt right.”

The track evolves across two emotional dimensions — starting with the dreamy and reflective ‘IT’S FINE’, a playful nod to the mental tricks we play on ourselves, before descending into the hazier, psychedelic depths of ‘SOJU ON THE MOON’, exploring the comedown from that self-deception.

Described by JVLY as a “concept record,” SUNDER is designed to be experienced as a full-circle story.

“It’s 5 songs that are all parts of a whole story. Each song links to the next, and the end of the last song links back to the start of the first, so it can play in an infinite loop. The theme came from the cycles we find ourselves in — the situations, stages, and mental states we move through over time.”

JVLY cites visual inspiration from cult classics like Enter The Void and Requiem for a Dream, which also shaped the aesthetic and video content surrounding the EP.

“When you look at a high-rise in the city, there’s a different story in every window. SUNDER paints the story from one of those windows.”

SUNDER is available everywhere now.
