Over the last few months Australian artist LOVER has given us two exceptional singles ‘Waiting Up (feat. Cult Shotta)’ and ‘Spiders (prod. by Golden Vessel)’, while also making promise of his debut ep coming our way very soon…
That ep is called “It’s A Wild World” – out May 28th, but before we get to that LOVER has one more preview to share with us titled ‘Last Puzzle Piece’, which he says was partly recorded inside his wardrobe!
“The vocals and guitars were recorded in my wardrobe at home haha. I then brought the track to my housemate Tanssi who added all the drums, reverse sounds and heavy sub bass line that makes the song hit a lot harder. After a long time going back and forth on mixes / mastering we have the track you hear!
This track was one of my first experiments with using auto tune. I was trying to push the sound to the point where the auto tune is hard to decipher – through layering my vocals and multiple harmonies. I spent a long time trying to find the perfect vocal takes for each section, and the breakdown in the chorus.
This is a song about persevering with something, whether that’s your career, a relationship, living situation or whatever. When you’re near the end the whole thing seems a complete mess until you stumble across the final word or you find the right person or whatever your ‘Last Puzzle Piece’ is. You can go from a complete mess to just complete in an instant. That’s the feeling I was trying to capture, and I hope it comes across.” – LOVER
