Munan is a South Korean/Australian artist who is making a unique blend of psychedelic-rock music with indie-pop elements, which can be likened to a mix between Tame Impala, Toro Y Moi and MGMT.
After spending most of his youth growing up in Canberra (Australia), Mun Hwan made the move Seoul in 2013 where he began producing for a selection of K-pop artists including Super Junior and Day 6. In 2018, he established a reputation within Korea’s music scene as one half of a pop duo called Chimmi. Since then, he’s had some success in making music for films and television shows.
With such a versatile repertoire, Munan’s style can be classified as neo-psychedelic rock, with some indie, disco, and alternative pop thrown into the mix. Munan records, produces, and mixes his songs in his own studio in Seoul, with other great musical friends helping from time to time, both live and in-studio.
Inspired by the likes of Toro Y Moi, Tame Impala, and MGMT, Munan’s music has quickly gained traction within the Spotify and Apple Music ecosystems, and has received support from the likes of Kitsuné Musique, C-Heads Magazine, MTV Australia, RAGE TV, Triple J, KEXP and KCRW just to name a small few.
Since debuting the Munan project in 2022, Mun Hwan has released a a modest collection of exceptional singles, as well as two exceptional EPs – “Tranquillity” (2023), and “Everything In Between” (2025), and his music has accumulated over 7 million streams on Spotify alone.
Mun Hwan is currently in the studio working on his next round of Munan releases, and over the coming months we can expect to see Munan appearing on a few collaborative releases as well.
