It’s been almost a year since we heard from Sydneysider Aaron Bannie aka Third Floor, but he’s back with a brand new track called ‘Oceans’.
The producer has been going through a lot of personal turmoil this year, both emotional and physical.
“This year I have been recovering from an Autoimmune Disorder which had me undergo major surgery with a further two to go. I wrote this track during a time of emotional turmoil and hospitalisation, and is a reflection of my headspace at the time,” he said.
The power of songwriting and music is said to be the best kind of therapy, and it certainly was for Third Floor.
“Those experiences had Dennis Dowlut AKA Deutsch Duke (who also performed the vocals) co-write this track with me. He helped with projecting the feelings I was experiencing at the time and gave me a platform to voice all those unsaid words,” he said.
The storyline in fact picks up from his previous single ‘Can’t Do This Alone’ where a troubled relationship is on the rocks. This time however, the perspective is male.
“The single checks in on the story after the break-up and is taken from personal experiences (and potentially the voice of everyone’s experiences of broken love); the remnants of a broken relationship and the agonising conundrum of all the things left unsaid,” he said.
Opening with a cinematic piano vibe, this rousing song turns into a rather saucy underground club sensation.
Playing with the auto tune on vocals really adds a swelling mood to the already wavy track giving real insight into the feelings of ambiguous limbo immediately following the aftermath of a break-up.
The title of the track is really well represented in the productions and orchestrations with highlights of real ocean waves filtering through the background. This is a summer chiller that delves deep into the personal experiences of Third Floor, unveiling the multitude of colliding emotions.
